Picocrypt NG Encryption Strategy
Picocrypt is a tiny portable piece of software that was designed for heavy-duty encryption. It is used in authoritarian countries to carry private, possibly dangerous information. It was written in GO. The original project is stable and remains available but the original developer froze it and it was branched by other contributors into what is called Picocrypt NG. The full code and binaries for almost any platform are available for both GUI and CLI application. I also have an offline HTML decryption tool that can be launched in a browser and decrypts on the fly.
Picocrypt NG uses Argon2id to slow down brute force attacks. Used with a 12-13 character password from a 96 character space produces 80 bit entropy and is effectively secure from even nation-states and quantum computers of the future. Lovely!
I have installed Picocrypt NG on my desktop, which includes both GUI/CLI functions. All available binaries for all platforms and uses, as well as the HTML decryption tool, are stored in the utilities folder of both my local drive and my cloud-synced backup drive, which is then backed up to external SSD. This way, the tools to decrypt my encrypted files are always available alongside my files regardless of internet connectivity.
